60Hz limits to 60 fps`?

i got a acer g24 for my birthday couple months ago, and i was just wondering:
if the monitor has a refresh rate of 60hz, then does that mean it can only support frames up to 60 a second?

Yeah, sort of, if you turn off vsync and any FPS limiters like com_maxfps, then the game will probably feel smoother even if the screen isn't being updated that many times.
